Are Laminate Countertops Heat Resistant?

Are Laminate Countertops Heat Resistant?

ANSWER:

Laminate countertops are NOT heat resistant.

More Info: Laminate countertops have many benefits such as affordability and ease in maintenance. Though some laminate countertop manufacturers do suggest that laminate countertops are heat-resistant, the threshold is very low compared to solid surface countertops such as granite and quartz.

Laminate countertops are composed of layers of kraft paper, topped with a decorative paper, that is bonded with a melamine-formaldehyde resin under high heat and pressure. The resulting plastic sheet is then bonded to a preformed particleboard base. Though this plastic sheet is durable, it may crack if exposed to a hot object placed directly on its surface, such as a sizzling frying pan.
