Knowing when to mix texting with business may mean the difference between success and failure. When used properly SMS (Short Message Service) texting can improve a business or individual's productivity rate. However, if used improperly, texting can make the business or its employee less efficient.

Beneficial Texting

Texting may assist a company to streamline its operations and increase productivity, as well as increase efficiency. Additionally, texting may improve customer relationships and increase sales. With the right SMS technology, adapted to the company's needs, a business can carry out a vast array of business activities.

Texting can assist in inventory tracking, proof-of-delivery, time tracking. In addition, texting may assist with asset tracking, order filling, and security tasks. Moreover, with the right SMS technology combined with traditional resources, a business can create text based marketing campaigns and collect information for customer databases. Texting can also assist in scheduling meetings, appointments, and improve employee collaboration.

Improper Texting

Even with the right technology, companies can easily use texting improperly. Improper texting may result in legal compliance issues. For instance, companies may accidentally create a spamming campaign instead of a legitimate marketing campaign. This could result in heavy governmental penalties, as well as lead to cell phone carriers severing ties with the company.

Businesses that use texting must also ensure that their employees use texting appropriately. A company may be held liable for any damages caused by employees who are texting while driving. This is especially true for drivers of large vehicles, such as trucks and buses.

Improper texting etiquette may also result in loss of business and tarnished reputation. Many people may resent being texted, especially if they have to pay for a message they did not request. Others may simply find the text messages to be annoying or intrusive.

When an employee uses company time for personal texting it is a loss of productivity. Although millions of people use texting daily, many do not know the proper etiquette rules. Companies that implements texting as part of the job should train their employees in texting etiquette. The training should emphasize the difference between professional business standards and the more casual personal standards. It is just as important to know when and where to text as it is to know how, why, and what content to text.
