Can Diabetes Cause Glaucoma?

Can Diabetes Cause Glaucoma?

ANSWER:

Diabetes CAN cause glaucoma

More Info: Diabetes is a disease affecting more than 16 million Americans and is a result of the body’s inability to produce insulin. Diabetes can cause a myriad of complications, eye diseases being among them. Diabetes can cause cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. High blood sugar can cause the lens of the eye to swell. If the fluid in the eye does not drain properly a buildup of pressure can occur known as intraocular pressure (IOP). Intraocular pressure can cause nerve and vessel damage in the eye which can cause loss of vision.
