New applications are making it possible to track a lost cell phone.
More Info: With an increasing amount of personal information being kept and transmitted over cell phones, additional concerns are raised if you are ever to lose your cell phone. Problems may arise as many mobile applications now hold credit card numbers, social security numbers, billing information, home addresses, friends’ contact information, and much more. The process of tracking a lost cell phone is very difficult on a standard cell phone. However, smartphones offer a few different ways to maintain the location of your phone, even if it falls into someone else’s hands.
The iPhone has steadily gained an increasing amount of market share. With its gaining popularity, an increasing number of institutions are using mobile apps to ease interaction. Examples include banking and credit card apps. These make it a large problem if your phone is ever lost or stolen. However, Apple has included a method for recovering lost or stolen cell phones, which makes it a very easy process. The first step is to sign up for Apple’s Find My iPhone service. This service allows you to locate your phone on a map, play a sound for two minutes if you happen to have lost it under a stack of papers, or remotely lock the screen and display a message providing information on its return. In addition, you can remotely wipe the iPhone, which will take off all of your personal information. While this would not necessarily allow you to recover the phone, it would secure your information from falling into questionable hands.
The Android operating system is on many different devices now. The easiest way to recover a lost or stolen Android phone is through the use of the application Plan B. Plan B can be installed via the Google Android Marketplace which can be installed on the phone remotely, provided you have your correct login information. Once you have remotely installed Plan B, you will receive an email every 10 minutes with the location of your phone. This should allow you to recover your phone without much hassle.
As smartphones carry an increasing amount of personal information, the preservation and security of them needs to increase as well. These are just a few of the apps that are available for recovering a lost phone, however, they should meet all of your basic needs. Doing a tiny bit of work as prevention can save a much larger headache from your phone being lost or stolen permanently.
