Can You Wash Polyester?

Can you wash polyester

ANSWER:

 You CAN wash polyester

More Info: Polyester is a washable synthetic fiber used to make fabric and other materials.  It is easy to care for because it is strong and manufactured to resist wrinkles. It is often mixed with other fibers, however, so make sure to check the label and adjust your cleaning process based on any other fiber that might be more fragile.

Machine Washing

Use warm water and basic laundry detergent. You can use diluted bleach with white polyester or a color-safe alternative with colored polyester. Polyester can be clingy and carry static electricity, so use a fabric softener. Dry the garment at a low setting in your dryer. Drying at a high temperature could result in a shrunken or misshapen item. If you take the piece out of the dryer as soon as it is done, you probably won’t have to iron it. However, polyester fabric can be ironed at a medium temperature if desired.

Avoiding Piling

Polyester is susceptible to piling or snagging. To avoid this, turn the garment inside out when washing it and use the shortest cycle possible to get it clean. Also, do not wash it with fabrics that tend to give off lint, since the lint can get caught in polyester piling, drawing attention to it.

Removing Stains

Oil is the worst culprit for staining polyester. If the fabric comes in contact with oil, address it immediately. Apply warm water and work in a small amount of grease-fighting detergent, rubbing it gently by hand. Rinse. Repeat if needed. Keep working to get the stain out before you put it in the washer or dryer; a heated dryer will likely set the stain.

Follow these steps and you’ll find that polyester is one of the most versatile fabrics to include in your wardrobe. It is easy to clean and the fact that it is excellent at resisting wrinkles makes it a good choice for today’s lifestyles.
