The menstrual cycle is measure from the first day of your period to the first day of your subsequent period.  For adult women, the average length of time between menstrual cycles is 21-35 days.  For teenagers the average length can vary between 21-45 days.

When Does Your Menstrual Cycle Begin?

In the United States, the average age for menstruation to begin is 12.  Starting before or after is normal and can range anywhere from 8 years of age to 15.  Menstruation usually begins two years following breast development.
