How Long Should Meditation Last?
Each meditation session should last at least twenty minutes to get a full experience of relaxation, focus and inner peace.
More Info: While every school of meditation has their own guidelines, the standard time of actual meditation can range from about twenty minutes to one hour. However, most schools of meditation would agree that it is more important to concentrate on the quality of the meditation rather than how long the participant sits down with the intention to focus. This means that a person that constantly fidgets or allows their mind to wander during meditation time is not achieving the level of inward focus that they should be. Therefore, that person can sit for hours and not gain the benefits that another person can get from twenty minutes of focused meditation time.
Buddhist Form of Breathing Meditation
The Buddhist form of breathing meditation teaches the importance of having an inner space and clarity that helps to keep participants from being too closely attached to external things. The general reasoning is that this enables people to become better equipped for all of the ups and downs of daily life. A form of Hindu meditation is meant to be utilized to discover the meaning of existence. This meditation is meant to release a person from the attachment of their body while they seek wisdom and understanding from within their own minds.
