There is a lot of work that goes into larger, detailed pieces of artwork and it takes a lot of time and talent to get the look that you want from your artist. Location of the tattoo on the body can also play into the costs as some areas are harder to tattoo than others.

Location of the artist can also be a factor in the price. Normally, tattoo shops located in larger cities will charge more, while shops in smaller communities may charge less.

Do your research before making a decision on who you want to tattoo you.  You should find an artist who has a good reputation, has a clean, sterile shop and the artistic talent needed.
