Removing ink stains from carpets may be very difficult to do, and must be done immediately. Extreme caution is required due to the possibility of causing more carpet damage, and unsafe cleaning solutions.

Needed Materials

There are a few cleaning solutions you can try that may remove your ink stain. Start with the simplest method and progress to more advanced methods if they become necessary. Here's a list of materials you may need:

• Table salt
• Cream of Tartar and Lemon Juice
• Isopropyl Alcohol
• 3% hydrogen peroxide
• Mineral spirits
• Clear, non-bleach liquid hand dishwashing detergent and white vinegar
• Warm water
• Wet-Dry vacuum cleaner
• Clean white towels
• Paper towels
• Pair of rubber gloves
• A large spoon
• Good air ventilation

Step by Step Instructions

When working with these types of solvents, be sure not to make skin contact, and remember they may be highly flammable.

Instructions:

1. Pour table salt on the stain, and let it absorb the ink.
   
   
2. Working from the edges to the center of the stain, gently scrape up the absorbed ink with the spoon.
   
   
3. Use a wet/dry vacuum, paper towels, or a clean, white towel to blot up the excess ink. Keep blotting until there's no more transfer on the towel.
   
   
4. Cover the stain with cream of tartar, and then squeeze a few drops of lemon juice on it. Gently stroke the stain for a minute, clean up the excess powder by lightly brushing it, and then immediately rinse the area thoroughly with warm water, but don't over-wet it.
   
   
5. If this doesn't remove the ink, then either keep repeating step 4 or apply any one of the other undiluted solutions, by applying it to a clean towel and covering the stain with it. Let it stand for 30 minutes to overnight, checking frequently for carpet damage.
   
   
6. Extract the excess moisture, and then rinse with warm water.
   
   
7. Apply a combination of 1 tablespoon of hand dishwashing detergent with one tablespoon of white vinegar in two cups of warm water, and let and stand for 15 minutes.
   
   
8. Repeat step 6, only use cold water.
   
   
9. Remove the excess moisture and let dry completely
   
   
10. Dry vacuum the carpet.
