How to Make a Bloody Maria with Tequila

The bloody Maria is a variation of the popular morning cocktail the bloody Mary. Named after Queen Mary I of England, notorious for executing hundreds of Protestants, the drink is a popular hangover remedy made with tomato juice. Substitute the vodka in the traditional bloody Mary for tequila and you have just renamed the drink the bloody Maria.

What Is in a Bloody Maria?

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 4 oz tomato juice
  • ½ oz lemon juice
  • 2-3 drops Tabsco sauce
  • 2-3 drops Worcestershire sauce
  • 2-3 horseradish liquid
  • Pinch of celery salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Celery stalk for garnish

How to Make a Bloody Maria

Fill a drink shaker with ice.

Add all ingredients except for the celery stalk

Shake until well mixed and chilled

Pour into an ice-filled glass and add garnish.

 

Variations

1800® Hot Blooded Maria

  • 1 ½ oz 1800® Reposado tequila
  • 4 oz tomato juice
  • Splash lime juice
  • 2 dashes hot sauce
  • 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • Pinch of celery salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Patrón® Bloody Maria

  • 2 oz Patrón® silver
  • 8 oz fresh tomato juice
  • Worcestershire to taste
  • Tabasco to taste
  • Dash black pepper
  • 1 celery stalk (garnish)
