How to Prevent Wrinkles on Neck
The skin around the neck is very thin, and thus more prone to aging and wrinkling. Wrinkles found around the neck, just like those found on the face, are a symptom of aging, sun damage and harmful lifestyle habits. Here are some simple habits that should be incorporated into your daily regimen to prevent wrinkles on the neck.
1. Applying Proper Sun and UV Protection
According to the study "Effect of Smoking and Sun on the Aging Skin", sun exposure is strongly associated with elastosis or the breaking down of elastic tissue or collagen fibers on the skin. The effects of sun exposure become prominent after an accumulated amount of time. Therefore, it is important to apply proper sun and UV protection around the neck even if the damage does not manifest immediately.
Apply sunscreen products with a minimum sun protection factor or SPF of 15. These products should likewise contain ingredients that block out UVA and UVB rays and should be applied all over the neck.
Harmful UV rays are invisible, thus applying sunscreen on the neck not only on days when there is a lot of sun, but on cloudy days as well will ensure that your neck is protected at all times.
2. Adequate Moisturizing
The skin around the neck is prone to dryness just as much as the face is. Applying moisturizer not only on your face, but on your neck as well is a good habit to start even when you are young. Dry skin exacerbates the appearance of wrinkles and frequent moisturizing on the front and back of the neck can prevent new lines and creases from forming.
3. Avoid Smoking
The long-term effects of smoking do not only include serious health concerns such as cancer. A recent study has confirmed that smoking also results in elastosis, which manifests not only on the face but also on the neck. To avoid the presence of wrinkles on the neck, smoking must be avoided.
