Ringworm IS painful.

More Info:  The severity of pain associated with a ringworm infection can vary, depending on pain tolerance and the severity of the infection. The inflamed and scaly rash is itchy as well, and often peels, cracks, oozes fluid, and even forms painful blisters, especially on the feet.

What is Ringworm?

Ringworm is actually not the result of a worm or parasite, but it is in fact a fungal infection. It is a very common skin condition that appears as circular red rashes that are painful to the touch and can be extremely itchy. Ringworm often occurs on the scalp, fingers, toes, feet, underarms, waist, thighs, and groin. Jock itch is a form of ringworm that attacks the groin area and can be very uncomfortable. Sweat, heat, and moisture exacerbate the infection and cause it to hurt and itch even more.

Relieving the Pain Associated with Ringworm

Topical antifungal creams and ointments can easily be found over the counter and work well to relieve the pain associated with ringworm and actually work to kill the infection as well. In some cases, prescription medicines are required if over-the-counter remedies fail to relieve the pain and remove the infection.
