What Is Cosmetic Acupuncture?
Cosmetic acupuncture is the use of acupuncture by the beauty service industry for aesthetic purposes rather than as a pain management tool.
Many are touting the procedure as an ‘acupuncture facelift', though the American Cosmetic Acupuncture Association discourages the use of the term as it has the potential to raise expectations that will likely be unrealistic. Though not as dramatic as a facelift, many tout the benefits of cosmetic acupuncture in helping to relax fine lines, firming frown lines, and reducing under-eye bags.
Cosmetic acupuncture is performed in a series of ten or so visits a few times a week. During the procedure 30-40 needles are applied about the face and body to encourage elastin and collagen production. The procedure can result in reduction of age spots, lifting drooping eyelids, firming the jawline, and erasing fine lines and easing those that are deeper.
