Productivity is the ability to get things done in a timely manner. It presumes that action is taking place. It means so much more than dreaming, planning, or thinking. Productivity is the ability to quickly implement an idea into reality. The truth is nothing really happens until someone does something. Organizations and professionals spend thousands of dollars every year in attempt to accomplish more, focus better, and increase productivity in an average workday. There are many theories for how to become more productive. Here are a few of the popular methods.
The List Making Method
The list making method is the traditional method that most people use to be more productive. The idea is to use either a piece of paper or a 3×5 card and write out your to do list for the day. The goal then is to focus on the first item and get that done. Then you cross off the item that adds to your feelings of success and you move onto the next item. For some this method works great, but for others it is too restrictive.
The Energy Method
The energy method of productivity states that you will get the most done during your personal “peak” times in your day. Some people are more alert and active in the mornings while others are energized when the sun goes down. Find your most productive times and do your most important tasks then. So, if making a call is on your to do for the day, do that later during a low energy time. Sure, you still need to make the call, but decide to only do the big, important tasks during your most productive times.
The Focus Method
In order to use the focus method effectively you have to put hard deadlines to your most important items. Therefore, you schedule a three-hour focus session and then you assign smaller deadlines on tasks that will feel up that focus session. This causes you to compete against the clock, as you desire to get as much done on a single task for which you have allotted 30 minutes. This is a great technique for those who find them procrastinating on a regular basis.
