What Is Wrong with My Dryer?-Clothes not Drying Properly

Check for Obstructions

Begin your inspection by cleaning the lint filter.  If the dryer allows pull it out and make sure the area beneath the filter is also free from lint.  Check the back of the dryer for any lint that may have been lodged.  Clean the lint out of the dryer exhaust duct and check to make sure that nothing else has been lodged between the dryer and the exit point.

Are You Using the Right Dryer Exhaust Duct?

Check to make sure whoever installed your dryer has installed the recommended ducting.  As an example, Maytag recommends that you use 4-inch diameter rigid aluminum or rigid galvanized steel duct.  Using anything smaller or flexible plastic duct is not optimal for the dryer.

Did the Clothes Spin Dry Completely?

When you remove a completed load from your washing machine, there should be no water in the tub or dripping from the clothes.  The clothes should be damp, not drenched.  Dryers work much harder and take much longer to dry wet clothes versus damp clothes.

Are You Overstuffing Your Washer?

Loads that are too cumbersome will take much longer to dry. The concept of the dryer is to tumble the clothes to allow air to freely move through them to help them dry more quickly. An overstuffed load will not move about freely in the dryer.
