Will Vitamin E Help Acne?

There is no scientific evidence that vitamin E prevents the development or in the treatment of acne.

More Info: Vitamin E has antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory effects, and increases the production of collagen. It is for this reason that medical professionals suggest vitamin E for skin conditions such as wound healing.   Though there is no evidence that topically applied vitamin E will help reduce acne breakouts, there may be a link between vitamin E plasma levels and acne severity.  A study in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Dermatology did conclude that patients that suffered from acne presented with significantly lower vitamin A and E plasma levels.

The only strong evidence supporting they health benefits of vitamin E supplementation are found in those individuals with a vitamin E deficiency to stop complications occurring from the deficiency.  Fat-soluble, vitamin E is stored in your fat for the body to use as needed so deficiencies are rare. Those likely to suffer from a vitamin E deficiency are those with additional illnesses such as digestive diseases or cystic fibrosis.
