Crocodiles have been observed crying while eating, which has spawned many myths about the behavior. What was once believed to be an emotional response is now known to be a physiological response. It’s still not completely understood but it is speculated that all the hissing the crocodile does when it eats forces air through the sinuses and lacrimal glands, which produce tears.
